Beechcroft, Brookhaven, DeSales set for playoffs

The Big Walnut High School football team isn’t expecting to be on its heels when it plays host to junior quarterback Maurice Hale and the Beechcroft offense Friday, Nov. 4, in a first-round Division II, Region 7 playoff game.

Hale has thrown for 1,784 yards and rushed for 885 yards, making him one of central Ohio’s premier dual threats.

In the Golden Eagles’ opening 27-16 loss to Westerville Central on Aug. 26, they faced a quarterback who also possesses the capability of both running and passing in Cody Kondas. Zach Tomi showed similar abilities as well during New Albany’s 34-31 win over Big Walnut on Oct. 14.

“In Week 1, we definitely faced a good one in Cody Kondas, and the New Albany quarterback was also a dual threat,” Golden Eagles senior inside linebacker Garrett Dandrea said. “We’re pretty well prepared, and I think we’re playing our best football at the end of the season. The early part of the season was a little rough, but our run defense has gotten pretty good.
