Cotton Candy Quilter
Wendy Nielsen is a pro. For that last nine years she's been teaching quilting classes to beginners and professionals alike.
And not once during her interview with the Standard did Nielsen say it was at all hard or exclusive.
In fact, making a quilt can be very fun and easy, if you have the time and the love to pour into your design.
It all begins with some fabric, a sewing machine and a design. Many of her students cater their quilt to match their home decor, or as a gift for someone special.
She's been teaching classes at Cotton and Candy in Strathmore for almost five years, and has something to offer no matter what a students level of experience.
"We get all ages, we can do just a simple rag-quilt for kids nine and up, right to past seniors," Nielsen said, adding that even men have attended her classes before.
"What I really enjoy is the beginners because they're thinking that this is so hard to do, and then once you show them the technique and how their machine works and get them going, they start to look around the classroom and realize, oh, they can do this one and they can do that one.
