Biting cold is likely in the Houston region for at least one more day as temperatures fall below freezing in most areas. But the mercury climbs through the rest of the week and a slight chance of rain is possible on the weekend.
On Wednesday, mercury readings could drop just below freezing in the metropolitan area, but could plunge to the mid 20s in areas north of Houston near Conroe, according to the National Weather Service . Forecasters said Galveston and other coastal areas could see temperatures near freezing.
In the Houston region the high will be near 51 under sunny skies. The overnight low dips to 31. A freeze warning has been issued until about 10 a.m. throughout southeast Texas. Areas near Victoria could see mercury readings in the mid 20s.
Temperatures normally range from 46 to 66 this time of year. The record low for this date is 24 degrees which set in 1950.
Temperatures climb slightly Thursday, when the high will be near 52 degrees under sunny skies. The low will be about 42.
